L. Brief
summary: Hurty Feelings is a unique spin on emotions. Fragility the hippo was
rough on the outside, she never cried, until someone told her she was beautiful
or called her legs sturdy. Fragility soon lost her friends because she was
always having a fit when people gave her compliments. One day Fragility decided she wanted to play
soccer and she met Rudy the Elephant, he called her pudgy and stubby legs.
Fragility worked up the courage to stand up to Rudy, and told him he had
everything weird that she had. Rudy broke down and started to cry, Fragility
learned that day empathy and took care of the bully, but learned a lesson as
well.

Description of how you would use the
book with students: I believe I would use Hurty Feelings to teach my students
that no matter what is said to you, you must keep your head up and love
yourself. With the example of Rudy, we can tell our students about bullying and
how to handle a bully, by going to a teacher instead of fighting back with
words.
