L. Brief
summary: This particular version of The Lion and The Mouse, is wordless. The
pictures in essences do all the talking. The book starts with a mouse about to
be eaten by an owl, followed by the lion about to eat the mouse. The mouse
pleads with the lion who then releases the mouse. The lion runs off. In the
next scene, two poachers set up a net and hide it under some brush. The lion
walks right into it. Screaming the mouse hears him and starts to eat away the net freeing the lion. The two live
harmoniously after all.
M. Description
of how you would use the book with students: I believe I would use The Lion and The Mouse to help students work
on prediction. This book is a wordless book, so the children will have to use
their imagination. Then I could read the actual story to the class, checking
their predictions. Another way to use this in the classroom is to use the
statement “treat others as you want to be treated.” This book is a wonderful
example, the mouse was saved by the lion and because the lion was such a great
animal, the mouse returned the favor.
